Filtering via the Media Workspace
While data sets are managed (saved, cleared, and created) from the Data Sets workspace, you can also create datasets from the Media workspace. Creating datasets from the Media workspace enables you to select which pieces of qualitative data you want "activated" in your project.
Create a dataset based on media
- Navigate to the Media workspace
- Select the media to include in the dataset by selecting the boxes to the left of the media file title. You can also use the filters panel on the bottom left to quickly identify the media you want to include and hit the "select all" button on the bottom right.
- Once you have chosen your media, click on "Make Set" button in the bottom right of the workspace
- The Data Sets workspace tab will glow in red font, indicating you are in a data set/have activated a filter
- You are now ready to navigate Dedoose and explore the dataset you created.
You can save the dataset by visiting the Data Sets workspace. Doing so will enable you or anyone else in the project to access and load the dataset.
Filter media based on other criteria such as descriptors, codes, or memos
- You can use the "Columns" and "Filter" panels on the left side of the Media workspace to quickly identify Media to include in your dataset.
- Use the "Columns" panel to select information you would like to include as options to filter by. For example, a a specific descriptor field or code.
- In the Filters panel, you will see the items you selected and the options they contain. Choose the specific filter criteria you want included in your dataset and the media will instantaneously filter according to your selections.
- Click on "Select All" button on the bottom right
- Click on "Make Set" button on the bottom right. This will create a dataset with the media that has all the criteria you selected.
- You will get a message indicating the Active Data Set has changed and the main Data Sets heading will be in red font, indicating you are in data set mode or only working with a set of data made up of the selected data.
- Click ok.
